Let's Laugh: Wedding Joke of the Day!

Grandpa Jones, 100, and in very good shape was celebrating his birthday and telling his friends his secret for long life. “Well, gentlemen,” he said, “for the past 75 years I’ve been in the open air every day of my life.” “Wow, that’s great,” they replied. “How did you manage that?” “Well,” Grandpa replied, “When I got married, we made an agreement that whenever we fought the one who was wrong would take a walk.” Samantha, Hong Kong

Wedding News from Around the World

Sweden: Next month, couples who want to get married quickly, won’t even have to get out of their cars. The Church of Sweden is offering Drive-in weddings to make marriage more interesting and accessible. Already, 36 couples have sent in applications to get married behind the wheel at the event which will take place in the city of Vasteras in central Sweden. "Weddings are getting more and more commercialized and that is not something we have any interest in. We would like to make things simpler and more down to earth when people take the plunge and get married," said priest Jerker Asterlund, the scheme's initiator. The wedding ceremonies, will last about seven minutes each and will be organized by 10 priests alongside the focal point of the auto gathering, with a motorcade of 1950s and 1960s cars. A gospel choir and a priest singing Elvis tunes will provide the soundtrack to the festivities.

Taiwan: I do... I do.... I do..... was the familiar mantra among the 130 couples repeating their vows at a mass wedding on a Taiwanese beach in mid-June. The ceremomy, jointly hosted by the Taipei government and Taiwan’s tourism bureau, was an effort to promote Taiwan's scenic beaches as an ideal wedding destination. One bridegroom, Che Chia–Hong, said that despite the non- intimate setting, the day was very romantic due to the beautiful mountain and coastal scenery. Since the 70’s, the Taiwanese government has sponsored mass weddings to discourage extravagant spending on individual parties. Let's hope they don’t feel the same way about honeymoon suites.

United States: Last August, Andrea M. Smith of Saginaw, Michigan found the perfect wedding dress during a sample sale. The only problem was that it was three sizes too small. “I couldn't order a bigger size, so I bought it and it was my motivation to lose weight, which I wanted to do anyway," confessed Smith. I couldn't even zip it; there was no getting around it." So in September, Smith, 26, started taking "exercise classes at a local fitness studio. She lost 40 pounds and fit into the dress perfectly when she married fiance Eric Jamrog on June 7."They altered the length, but only had less than an inch to let out, so it was a good thing I lost the weight, "revealed the slender bride. " Personal trainer, Vern Calhoun, who attended the wedding added ”She told me that I didn't have to bring a present because I was her gift, getting her into her dress."
